Elena Breuer is a photographer who focuses on sustainable and ethical brands. Before Coronavirus, she hadn’t previously used her platform to discuss her own life or experiences. But a shortage of work encouraged her to turn the camera inward. Now, Elena is working on developing her own interview series to present new brands and founders and help them gain exposure.
Turning the camera around
Photographer
09 APR 2020 My name is Elena Breuer. I grew up at the south west of germany and moved to Berlin 5 years ago to study photography. After I finished my study two years ago I am working on my own business. I am passionate photographer, but I also like to do film and creative direction. I love to work together with creative people from around the world.
Berlin is a really good place to find people who love and be open to create new projects, even you are just at the beginning of your career.
At first, I was really shocked because all my projects and jobs got canceled. Like many other people, I went from 100 to 0, and I am now facing great uncertainty as to what the future will look like. But pretty quickly I understood that I am not alone in this and the government will find a financial solution.
After that I started to be creative again and tried to find a way to work from home. I did not actually use my platform to share insights or thoughts from my private life, for the simple reason that I only want to present my work and not myself.
But I saw a chance to use my platform to support the entrepreneurs and brands whose existence is endangered by the Corona crisis. I decided to to do this with a photoseries, where I mostly photograph myself and implement an interview where
I am presenting new brands and founders over the coming weeks. It is very important to me to make a contribution, because right now we must support each other so that we can look positively into the future.

Staying positive and especially be creative. Many of us forgot to appreciate the little things in life and to be happy about them. Use this time to do things for which you otherwise cannot find time.
Also try to find a new daily routine. This could be a coffee in the sun after you did a little yoga workout in the morning.
I am very surprised how many people have found a way to keep their business going due to the limited possibilities. I am thrilled by the cohesion that I feel between many people. This is very inspiring for me.
I guess it would be helpful for potential clients to still think about the time after this crisis and get in touch with me to talk about future projects.
I have so much time and energy to already create some concepts. This would give me a very positive feeling.
