Tell us a bit about yourself

13 APR 2020 Hi! My name is Tobias and originally I’m from Vienna, Austria. I came to Berlin this October as an exchange student and I am at the University of the Arts in the graphic design class of Fons Hickmann for this year.

Besides that, I am freelancing for clients all around the world. In my work I combine graphic design and typography with 3D and motion design. I mostly work for clients that are somehow related to the music industries like labels or musicians.

How have the last few weeks or months shaped or impacted your practice?

Since the number of new commissions decreased as all the events got cancelled, I had a lot more time to think about personal works and learn new techniques.

The social isolation inspired me to do some new work related to these topics as isolation, discipline (not going out for no good reason to protect others and myself) but also solidarity amongst us as we’re all in this together.

How are you coping at home?

Actually, I am not staying in Berlin for now as I am an Austrian citizen, our government advised anyone to come back to Austria. But in general, I can advise anyone to stay fit, mentally and physically.

I do my meditation sessions almost daily and try to do sports at home as I work a lot on my computer which is not the best way you can treat your back.

What has inspired you recently?

I found pictures of empty streets especially in China and Italy very astonishing to observe as it looked so surreal. I live at my parent’s home until the situation is a bit more relaxed again, so I am also experiencing childhood memories again which I thought I had forgotten. This also affects my work in a certain way.
